Michigan Tech will induct ten former athletes into its Sports Hall of Fame on Oct. 16 in Houghton.

The class is headlined by Deedra Irwin, a two-time Olympic biathlete.

The university announced the Class of 2026 on Tuesday, Sept. 1. The induction ceremony is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 16, on campus. Inductees will also be honored Saturday, Oct. 17, when the football Huskies host Northern Michigan for the Miner's Cup and the hockey team hosts Alaska at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena.

Irwin competed in three sports for the Huskies from 2010 to 2015: cross country, Nordic skiing and track and field. She qualified for the NCAA skiing championships three times and was All-GLIAC in the steeplechase in 2011. After college, she joined Team USA Biathlon and placed seventh in the women's 15-kilometer individual event at the 2022 Beijing Olympics. Bridge Michigan reported that finish was the best ever by a U.S. biathlete in an individual Olympic event. A Wisconsin native who trained extensively in northern Michigan, Irwin went on to compete at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Games. She has represented Team USA at four World Championships. A sergeant in the Vermont Army National Guard, Irwin was named the 2021 Vermont Soldier of the Year.

Three hockey players join the class. Colin Murphy, a right wing from 2001 to 2005, tallied 152 points in 154 games and holds the program record for assists by a right wing in a single season with 42. He was a Hobey Baker finalist as a senior and played eight professional seasons, including five in the AHL and four in Germany's DEL. Wayne Weller scored twice and added an assist in the 1965 NCAA Championship Game during his career from 1964 to 1967. Goaltender Darcy Way played from 1978 to 1982, posting 751 career saves, and later served Michigan Tech in multiple roles including hockey assistant coach and director of alumni relations.

Andy Bonk, a defensive back from 2001 to 2004, was a three-time All-GLIAC First Team selection who ranks 11th all-time at Michigan Tech with 268 tackles. He earned All-American honors in 2004 when the Huskies went 9-2, won the GLIAC Championship and made the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance. Mike Horan lettered from 1971 to 1974 as a running back and defensive back, helping the 1974 squad finish 9-0 and claim an NIC Championship. Horan is the owner and CEO of Ajax Paving Industries of Florida.

Lucy Slowik played basketball from 2007 to 2011, appearing in 127 games and shooting .426 from three-point range, third-best in program history. She was an All-American and GLIAC Tournament MVP as a senior. Jason Marcotte scored 1,521 points in 120 basketball games from 2001 to 2005, ranking 13th in program history, and was the 2002 GLIAC Freshman of the Year.

Sarah Hurley, a middle blocker from 1991 to 1994, ranks fourth in career blocks at Michigan Tech with 398. The volleyball team reached the NCAA Tournament twice as regional finalists during her tenure.

Scott Kieser was a two-sport standout, throwing for 23 touchdowns and 2,800 yards as a quarterback from 1991 to 1995 while also scoring 406 points in 55 basketball games. He received the Raymond L. Smith Award as the top senior student-athlete in 1996.

The Miner's Cup kickoff and the Alaska hockey series on Oct. 17 give fans two chances to see the new Hall of Fame class honored on the same day.
