NMU forward Luca Rosen scored four goals in the Wildcats' 7-1 win over Jamestown and earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week.

The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) named Rosen its top offensive player Monday, Sept. 14, MyUPNow reported. The London, England, native broke NMU's all-time career goals record with his four-goal performance Saturday, Sept. 12, at the NMU Soccer Field in Marquette. He now holds 17 career goals, surpassing Sam Popp's mark of 16 set across the program's first three varsity seasons from 2016 to 2018.

No Wildcat had done it before. Rosen became the first in program history to score four goals in a single game.

NMU's official men's soccer account marked the moment on Instagram: "Our new goal leader. Rosen adds 4 to the board and breaks the NMU career goal record," the team posted.

His day also produced single-game program records for most points (eight), fastest two goals (2 minutes, 29 seconds) and fastest three goals (9 minutes, 58 seconds). The previous fastest-three-goals record of 11 minutes, 18 seconds had stood since David Feldmann, Eric Suess and Ben Hoffman combined for it against Walsh on Sept. 18, 2016, according to WZMQ.

Through five games, Rosen leads all of NCAA Division II in goals (eight) and points (17) and ranks second in shots on goal with 14, according to NMU Athletics. He sits at 39 career points, one shy of tying Popp's career points record of 40. One goal or two assists in his next outing would give him that record outright.

Head coach Alex Fatovic, entering his fifth season leading the program, called the honor well-deserved in a statement released with the GLIAC announcement. "The scary thing is we know he's actually capable of more," Fatovic said.

Other Wildcats also posted big numbers against Jamestown. Sergio Cano Castro finished with five points on one goal and three assists. Ian Weimer also recorded three assists. Both totals tied the NMU single-game assists record set by Sveinn Karlsson in 2016, according to the Mining Journal. Sam Pilgrim and Noah Preston-Watkins each added a goal. Vinni DaSilva chipped in two assists.

Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Carson Shene made his regular-season debut, recording two saves as NMU outshot Jamestown 23-5 overall and 9-3 in shots on goal.

After the Saturday win, Rosen told WZMQ it was special to break the record at home. "I knew coming into today I needed four goals, but I thought, 'ah, maybe not today' … And it was special to do it at home," he said in his Sept. 12 post-game interview.

Fatovic served a one-game suspension for the Jamestown match after drawing a red card in the previous game at Saginaw Valley State. Assistant coach Chance Vang ran the sideline in his place.

The Wildcats stand at 3-2 overall and open GLIAC conference play Friday, Sept. 18, at Saginaw Valley State at 2 p.m., followed by a game at Davenport on Sunday, Sept. 20. They return home to face Purdue Northwest at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2.
