Motorists who use County Road CD in Ely Township will need to find another way around through mid-October.

The Marquette County Road Commission announced Friday, Aug. 7, that County Road CD, also known locally as Mail Route Road, is fully closed for a culvert replacement at the road's crossing with Green Creek. The closure point sits approximately 0.8 miles west of County Road 581.

The road will remain closed through Monday, Oct. 12, according to WLUC TV6, which reported the closure from an MCRC press release.

No through traffic can pass the Green Creek crossing during the project. Drivers will need to follow the signed detour route posted at the site. The MCRC did not name the specific detour roads in its announcement.

Gwinn-based contractor MJ VanDamme, Inc. is handling the work alongside the road commission.

The location has a history of culvert trouble. In April 2023, the same Green Creek crossing on County Road CD was closed after a culvert failure forced an emergency shutdown. The current project replaces the failed infrastructure at that site.

The road commission did not release a project cost. Motorists seeking detour details can contact the Marquette County Road Commission at (906) 486-4491.
