Levi Frahm belted two home runs and drove in five runs Tuesday, Aug. 11, as Houghton Building Supplies/Stanton knocked off top-seeded Garnet Garage 8-4 in Game 1 of the Copper Country Twilight Baseball League semifinals.
Garnet Garage had earned the league's No. 1 seed heading into the playoffs. It didn't matter.
Frahm's five-RBI night did most of the damage, with his two long balls accounting for the bulk of Houghton Building Supplies/Stanton's scoring in the four-run victory over the top seed on opening night of the best-of-three semifinal round, according to the Keweenaw Report.
The win puts Houghton Building Supplies/Stanton one victory from the championship series, while Garnet Garage faces elimination if it cannot win Thursday, Aug. 13, at the Stanton field.
Northern Driveline cruises
In the other semifinal Tuesday night, Northern Driveline rolled past Craig Heinonen Coldwell Banker 9-1, seizing a commanding 1-0 series lead of its own.
The eight-run margin left Craig Heinonen Coldwell Banker in a must-win spot heading into Game 2 on Thursday, Aug. 13, at the Driving Park, where Northern Driveline will serve as the home team.
Game 2 schedule
Both series resume Thursday, Aug. 13. Garnet Garage is listed as the home team against Houghton Building Supplies/Stanton at the Stanton field, while Craig Heinonen Coldwell Banker faces Northern Driveline at the Driving Park.
If either series requires a decisive third game, Game 3 will be played Sunday, Aug. 16. The Keweenaw Report's Todd Overbeek reported the results.
Winners of the two semifinal series will advance to the championship round, though the league has not announced dates or format for the finals.
