Lake Linden-Hubbell rolled to a 58-16 win over Rapid River on Friday, Oct. 2, staying unbeaten at 6-0.

The UPSSA No. 1 Lakes scored on every possession but their last, according to the Keweenaw Report. They struck fast, finding the end zone on three of their first four plays from scrimmage: a 47-yard Brady Axford run, a 41-yard Blake Lebo run and a 57-yard Axford-to-Josh Daavettila pass.

Axford and Lebo kept piling on before halftime. A 12-yard Axford scoring run and a 59-yard Lebo burst pushed the lead to 38-8 at the break.

The second half brought more of the same. Axford ripped off a 52-yard touchdown run on the opening drive, and after the Lakes recovered an onside kick, Lebo connected with Tyler Axford on a 45-yard scoring strike. Tobin Baril capped the night with a 54-yard run in the fourth quarter and added four two-point conversions.

Brady Axford finished with 143 yards on nine carries. Lebo added 117 rushing yards. Baril contributed 97.

Head coach Brett Gervais praised Axford's leadership before the season. "I can't say enough good things about Brady Axford," Gervais said in an August preseason feature on WLUC. "He's been, every step of the way, a leader … anything that he does, he kind of just amazes me."

Lake Linden-Hubbell entered the week as the unanimous No. 1 pick in the UPSSA 8-player poll, according to WLUC.
