A 36-year-old man was lodged in the Marquette County Jail after Michigan State Police said he allegedly stabbed a 32-year-old man in Chocolay Township on Friday, Oct. 2.

Michigan State Police troopers from the Negaunee Post responded to a residence in Chocolay Township at approximately 9:56 p.m., according to MSP Eighth District. My UP News reported the residence was in a neighborhood behind the Ojibwe Casino. MSP said the suspect allegedly stabbed the victim with a knife during an altercation.

MSP also reported the suspect had allegedly assaulted a juvenile before the stabbing. The agency did not explicitly connect the two incidents in its statement, My UP News reported.

The stabbing victim sustained serious injuries and was transported by EMS to a local hospital, where he is in stable condition. The juvenile suffered minor injuries, MSP said.

A My UP News crew at the scene observed an ambulance with lights on leaving the area and police speaking with a man in handcuffs. Officers confirmed at least one person had been injured, one person was in custody and there was no ongoing danger to the public.

The suspect's name has not been released pending arraignment, according to MSP. MSP noted the suspect is considered innocent unless proven guilty.

Five agencies assisted MSP: the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community Tribal Police, Marquette Police Department, Marquette County Sheriff's Office, Chocolay Township Police Department and Marquette County Central Dispatch.

The investigation is ongoing. MSP said it will release updates as they become available.
