Nearly 400 organizations, representing more than 415 booths and over 1,000 recruiters, will fill the Student Development Complex in Houghton on Tuesday, Sept. 29, when Michigan Technological University hosts its Fall 2026 Career Fair.
The event, running from noon to 5 p.m., will feature more than 415 booths and over 1,000 recruiters, according to the university. Nearly 57% of registered employers are hiring for positions in Michigan, and about one-quarter are recruiting at Michigan Tech for the first time.
Engineering students are in especially high demand. More than 70% of employers are recruiting civil, environmental and geospatial engineering students. More than 60% are seeking mechanical, electrical, computer engineering and applied computing majors. Over half are also recruiting from the College of Business.
Cody Kangas, executive director of Career Services, said the turnout reflects employer confidence in Michigan Tech graduates. "The high number of employers and recruiters coming to campus demonstrates continued confidence in a Michigan Tech education and in the career readiness of our students," Kangas said.
Michigan Tech reports a 94.6% placement rate for graduates and a median early career salary of $84,560, according to the university's fall 2026 enrollment release.
One student's path shows how those connections pay off.
Senior Veronica Frystak, a dual major in marketing and supply chain management, became the first Michigan Tech marketing student to intern with Milwaukee Tool after making the connection at a previous career fair. She later landed an internship with Ford Racing, a role she said she never anticipated pursuing.
The day after the fair, on Wednesday, Sept. 30, recruiters stay on campus to conduct interviews with students. Faculty and staff donate office space for those sessions, according to the university's Career Services page.
The career fair is held twice a year. The university calls it one of the largest university recruiting events in the country. Community members interested in volunteering can find roles through the Career Fair GivePulse page, the Keweenaw Report noted.
