U.S. Sen. Gary Peters will roll through Marquette during a 1,000-mile farewell motorcycle ride across Michigan set for Aug. 24-28, his office announced Saturday, Aug. 15.

The five-day "Thank You, Michigan" tour marks Peters' 10th and final annual ride as a U.S. senator. He is retiring after 12 years in the chamber. The tour begins Monday, Aug. 24, in Bay City and ends Friday, Aug. 28, in East Lansing, with stops in Alpena, Marquette, Traverse City and Grand Rapids along the way.

Marquette's stop falls around Wednesday, Aug. 26, based on the tour's published sequence, though Peters' office said specific locations and times for each city will be announced in the coming days. Peters maintains a district office in Marquette at 857 W. Washington St., Suite 308.

Veterans, union workers, motorcycle safety advocates and other constituents will join Peters on portions of the ride, according to the Soo Leader.

"There's no better way to travel around Michigan than on a motorcycle, so I'm looking forward to riding across our beautiful state to meet with Michiganders and celebrate all that we've accomplished together," Peters said in a statement.

Peters founded the bipartisan Senate Motorcycle Caucus and introduced the Motorcycle Safety Awareness Act of 2025 to expand motorcycle safety education. He won two Senate races in Michigan and led Senate Democrats' campaign arm during the 2022 and 2024 election cycles before announcing his retirement.
