Joshua Grenier, 36, was arraigned Monday, Oct. 5, in the 96th District Court on one count of assault with intent to murder, according to the Michigan State Police Eighth District. His bond was set at $100,000 cash or surety.
As we reported Oct. 5, troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Negaunee Post responded to a residence in Chocolay Township at approximately 9:56 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2. Police said Grenier stabbed a 32-year-old man with a knife during an altercation, according to the Soo Leader.
The incident occurred in a residential neighborhood in Chocolay Township, My UP News reported.
The victim sustained serious injuries and was transported by EMS to a local hospital. A relative told My UP News the injured man was in stable condition at UP Health System–Marquette when the outlet reported its update.
Police also allege Grenier assaulted a juvenile before the stabbing. The juvenile reportedly suffered minor injuries, according to MSP.
Multiple agencies assisted troopers at the scene, including the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community Tribal Police, Marquette Police Department, Marquette County Sheriff's Office, Chocolay Township Police Department and Marquette County Central Dispatch, according to the Mining Journal.
Under Michigan law, assault with intent to commit murder is punishable by life in prison or any term of years.
Grenier is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
His next hearing is scheduled for Oct. 15, according to MSP.
